Spam Comments

From last few days I am receiving so many spam comments on a particular post that it is driving me crazy. My blog does not have too much traffic. But among these less traffic also I am getting on an average ten spam messages per day. It is not that I have not received such messages earlier but of late I am getting too many a day and on the particular post only.

I do not know why my post A Healthy Breakfast is attracting so much traffic and that too all fake. I do not know much about the technicalities of blogging and now I am seriously getting concerned if there is any serious problem with my blog. Most of the spammers are from United States and RUSSIA.

Is it normal to get such spam messages in blogs? I just feel if these spam readers would have spent a few seconds reading the post genuinely and leave a message, then I would have surely visited their blogs. I do not know what they get doing such bluffs. Are they able to attract any visitors doing such things? I wonder!

I sometimes feel to block anonymous comments but I have many anonymous friends who genuinely visit my blog and read and comment. If I do so, they will not be able to comment any more. The spam comments give me a feeling of window shoppers visiting a shop with no intension of buying anything, rather messing the shop. Aaargghhhhh!!!!

A screen shot of only a one forth portion of messages I received during 24th night and 26th June morning :

If anyone can provide any solution, it will be appreciated.

  1. You can always moderate the comments. There is provision where any comment won't be posted unless your clear it. Check your comment section settings. That will sort out the issue

  2. As I can see, there is no moderation for comments to your post. My suggestion - add moderation, but do not add the option of "Are you a computer to it". People who wish to leave comments don't like it if they have to verify that they are not computers.

  5. If you don't want to lose the anonymous bloggers then you cannot adopt the method I did when I had a similar problem., i.e. only allowing registered users to comment. So if I were you I would follow the advice already given and use moderation. Mind you, I hate having to type moderation codes and have often refrained from commenting because of it. If you apply the verification system with email notification you would still get the spam comments but at least they wouldn't get on your blog. Hope you solve this to your satisfaction.

    1. Valerie, I too hate typing the moderation codes while commenting and just stay away from many posts who use this method..Before they did not use to appear in my blog but recently most of them started showing there..

  6. As long as blogger is catching them, I wouldn't worry about it. Those spammers sure are persistent, aren't they? So irritating!

  8. I moderate all comments before they appear, and this is the reason. I am so sorry to hear that you are getting this unwanted traffic. Sending you a hug, and I pray that this will stop.

  9. Oh, and I find the word verification annoying which is why I don't implement it on my blog...but I do moderate the comments and if I see any spam it gets deleted. As far as not allowing anonymous comments, I don't like this because it shuts out any good people who may not be members of Blogger to comment on your blog. I have noticed, though, that there are spammers that even belong to Blogger (I have seen a few on comments on other blogs), so not allowing anonymous comments won't guarantee you not getting spam. Hope this helps.

  11. Comment moderation is good. If you like an anonymous comment, you can choose to publish it. Otherwise such spam comments irritate people who are subscribed to follow up comments as well.

  12. Ranita, I have a similar situation. Spam is very annoying.
I also have an anonymous, virtual friends and do not want to block this function. I wonder why Blogger does not do anything in this case.

  14. I agree. It is too much of a pain to delete the spam comments. Comment moderation would be a welcome step. Unfortunately, that puts lot of effort to verify the right comments as well as verify it fast.

  15. I'm afraid spam comments are a blog reality. Sigh. Still, I haven't gotten many since I changed the settings on my blog. My son did not feel comfortable when googling his name brought out photos from my blog. Therefore I changed the settings so that "web crawler" would not notice my blog. Unfortunately it also prevents people from finding me unless they have a link or know my blog address. It's OK though because I enjoy the friends I already have with my blog and don't need anyone else to find me. It also keeps the spam down considerably.
